Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-05-08
This privacy policy describes how the Gridda mobile application (the "Application") handles information. The Application is published by Jan Kubovy (the "Service Provider"), an individual developer based in the Czech Republic, as a paid product on Google Play.
SummaryGridda is a single-player puzzle game. It does not require an account, does not collect personal data for marketing, and does not contain advertising or analytics SDKs. Core gameplay data — puzzle progress, history, settings, statistics — is stored locally on your device. The data that may be transmitted off your device is: anonymous crash diagnostics (always on), and — if you sign in to Google Play Games — cloud save backups, leaderboard scores, and achievement progress. Each is described below.
Information stored on your deviceThe Application stores the following data locally in a SQLite database on your device:
- Puzzle progress (current and saved games), solved-puzzle history, and a gallery of completed images.
- Application settings (theme, sound, haptics, language, gameplay preferences).
- Aggregated gameplay statistics (puzzles solved, fastest times, daily streak).
This data does not leave your device. Uninstalling the Application removes it permanently.
Information transmitted off your deviceThe Application uses the INTERNET permission for the following purposes:
- Crash diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics). When the Application crashes or encounters an unhandled error, an anonymous crash report is sent to Google's Firebase Crashlytics service. The report contains the stack trace, the Application version, the operating system version, the device model, and an installation identifier generated by Crashlytics. It does not include your name, email, contacts, location, or any data you have entered into the Application. Crash reports help the Service Provider identify and fix bugs.
- Google Play Games Services (only if you sign in). Described in the next section.
- Future content updates. Later versions may download optional curated puzzle packs from a server controlled by the Service Provider. The current version does not perform any such downloads.
The Application does not collect IP addresses, device location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data.
The Application does not use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to process your data.
Google Play Games ServicesGridda integrates Google Play Games Services (Play Games SDK v2) to provide:
- Cloud save. Backs up your gameplay data (puzzle progress, history, statistics, settings) to your own Google Drive in a hidden, app-specific folder so you can restore it on another device. Only the Application can read this folder. The Service Provider has no access to its contents.
- Leaderboards. Lets you compare scores (such as fastest solve times or daily streak) with other Gridda players. Submitted scores are stored on Google servers and shown publicly to other players together with your Play Games gamer alias and, if you have one, your gamer profile picture.
- Achievements. Records milestones (such as solving a first puzzle in each size) on Google servers. Unlocked achievements are visible on your Play Games profile to people you allow to see it through your Play Games privacy settings.
How sign-in works. The Play Games SDK shows Google's standard sign-in prompt the first time you launch the Application (if you have Play Games configured on your device). You can accept or decline. If you decline, none of the features above are used and the Application continues to work as a single-player game; no data is sent to Play Games. If you accept, the Application receives your Play Games player ID, your gamer alias (display name), and, if available, your gamer profile picture URL. The Application does not receive your Google Account email address, your real name, or any other Google profile data.
Signing out. Play Games SDK v2 does not expose an in-app sign-out. To sign out of Play Games or to disconnect Gridda from your Play Games account, use the Play Games Settings on your device (typically Settings → Google → Play Games, or open the Google Play Games app) or the Google Account "Apps with access to your account" page. Once disconnected, the Application stops sending data to Play Games.
Withdrawing consent and deletion. Disconnecting your account does not automatically delete data already stored by Google (cloud-save backups, leaderboard scores, achievement progress). To request deletion, contact the Service Provider at gridda@kubovy.net; cloud-save data can also be removed by you directly from your Google Drive settings ("Manage apps").
Google's processing of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Sharing puzzlesWhen you tap "Share" on a puzzle, the Application uses the operating system's share sheet to send a link in the form https://gridda.kubovy.net/puzzle?v=1&data=…. The link encodes only the puzzle clues (numbers around the grid). It does not contain any information about you, your device, or your progress. The link is delivered through whichever app you choose (e.g. messaging or email); the Service Provider does not receive a copy.
The Application is distributed through Google Play and uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Google Play Services — required to install and update the Application.
- Firebase Crashlytics — anonymous crash diagnostics, as described above.
- Google Play Games Services — cloud save, leaderboards, and achievements; only used when you sign in to Play Games.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with comparable rules, you have the right to access, correct, or erase personal data the Service Provider holds about you, and to object to its processing. Because the Application stores all gameplay data on your own device, you can exercise the right of erasure for that data simply by uninstalling the Application.
For data held by Firebase Crashlytics (anonymous crash reports keyed to a Crashlytics installation identifier) or by Google Play Games Services (gamer profile, leaderboard scores, cloud-save backups), please contact the Service Provider at gridda@kubovy.net and Google directly via the linked Google policies.
The data controller is Jan Kubovy, reachable at gridda@kubovy.net.
ChildrenGridda is a puzzle game suitable for users of all ages, including children. The Application does not knowingly collect personal data from any user, including children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). The crash diagnostics described above are anonymous and apply to all users without distinction.
This Application complies with the United States Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA): no personal information is collected from children under 13. Under Article 8 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), processing of personal data of a child below 16 (or a lower age set by a Member State, but not below 13) requires consent of the holder of parental responsibility. Because the Application does not collect personal data, this provision does not apply in practice.
Google Play Games Services has its own age policy. Google does not permit children under the applicable age (typically 13, varies by country) to create a Play Games profile, and the Play Games SDK will not sign such accounts in. As a result, the cloud-save, leaderboard, and achievement features described above are not available to child accounts; this is enforced by Google, not by the Service Provider. The rest of the Application — all puzzle-solving features — works without any sign-in.
